Young, Wild and Free are not usual eligible entrants to the Boardroom as per all set traditional standards of board room etiquette. Traditionally boradroom discussions are mostly one way and only experienced professionals are a part of it.
I personally think it is high time to see through a change. With the increasing new entrants to the job market at younger ages, most of them have an urge within them to succeed and to challenge the status quo. But how many companies out there do really help those youngsters to light up that fire in to flames is of a question. The world is changing too fast and whats present today becomes too old tomorrow. No matter how much we think experience counts and that old and traditional could survive, my opinion is that it is not good enough to thrive. May be surviving is what traditional organizations could achieve at utmost.
I think it is time for all of us - young professionals to change the way we act and work in our own companies. It might look taboo to challenge your supervisor or his supervisor. It might lead you to trouble to break the ancient rules of corporate world. It could be a challenge to stand against what you dont believe in. I think its time to change the places we work.
It is our duty to change it to what will suit today's world. It could be positively "wild" but still be efficient. Thoughts and opinions could lack experience but could be fresh and "young". It should not stop an organization from harnessing the benefits of those young ideas if that is what would take your irganization to the next level.
You can be called the black sheep in the Boardroom but if you still believe that something is not right and if you do have your facts right, do not be afraid, speak up. It could probably be the day that you created an eye opener for many in that room and it could be the day that you created the path of many youngesters like you to walk free.
The world or the board room doesnt and shouldnt decide who you are or what you should say. It is time to break free of those traditional etiquette of "agreeing" to a new world of "brainstorming". Make the difference today. You might need a little dose of "extra guts" to do it but still do it because it's worth the effort!
Make that change long due in the Boardroom!
